Jam Sessions for Ones, Twos, and Babies! Storysongs, Music, and Movement for children ages 0-3 years
Jam Sessions Babies! Pre-walkers (0-14 mos)
In these classes, designed for the youngest music-makers and the people who love them, parents will be introduced to fun and interesting musical activities designed to stimulate neurological development. Parents and caregivers will be invited to share about their baby, creating a community of support each week. Jam Sessions Babies is taught by Kids at Work Founder Julie Averill, who has over 7 years of experience working with infants and families, along with a separate professional guitarist. Parents will be encouraged to participate in a low-stress, relaxed atmosphere based on improvisation where mistakes and questions are welcome! Come to a Jam Session and meet other moms and dads of young babies!
FALL 2010 Tuesdays, 12:15 - 1:00pm Wednesdays, 11:30am - 12:15pm September 13, 2010 - January 14, 2011
The most important musical experience your child can have is one where grown-ups and children alike are fully engaged and active. This is where Kids at Work Jam Sessions differ from other similar programs. Experienced, mature teachers encourage ideas and plenty of singing and moving from grown-ups, thereby inspiring creativity and engagement on the part of all children. Both familiar folk and childrens' songs, as well as an ethnically diverse array of music that is "off the beaten path" are explored. Classes are led by two teachers, including a guitarist, both being musicians and experienced early childhood teachers. Jam Sessions ONES will contain plenty of developmentally appropriate movement for our early walkers, and child-friendly instruments inspire creative play.
FALL 2010 Wednesdays, 9:30 - 10:15am September 13, 2010 - January 14, 2011
Jam Sessions for twos and threes contains songs that are built around interesting, age-appropriate storytelling and dramatic movement. Children will become birds, big fat bears, and trees, while experiencing music that is often improvised and certainly not typical of children's music classes. Simple musical concepts such as high-low, major-minor, fast-slow, and singing voice/speaking voice will be explored in an open-ended and informal manner. Child-friendly instruments will be explored in each session, inspiring creative play in a socially relaxed setting.
